All across Arizona’s sovereign lands students are preparing to go back to school. As part of our ongoing mutual aid, we will provide school supplies for students on tribal lands across northeast Arizona. This annual fundraiser is non-political: all of the funds raised go directly to a separate mutual aid GoFundMe unrelated to our political committee account.
Each backpack is filled with grade-appropriate supplies for students identified by our team. We would like to supply 100 students with the materials they need to be successful this school year. School supplies can cost up to $50 per student. Many families in our region don't have the funds for those extra expenses - which is where we come in.
We work with community members in Kayenta, Chilchinbeto and White Clay on the Navajo Nation, the village of Bacavi on Hopi, and Whiteriver on White Mountain Apache lands to purchase and deliver supplies to the students who most need them.
Even though this annual fundraiser isn’t directed at supporting our Democratic organizing, we believe this effort is consistent with our Democratic values and consider it a vital part of our work as a values-driven community-based organization. Please help us deliver much needed school supplies to students on sovereign land.
We have a long history of providing mutual aid to families who live in the communities we serve. Most recently, this past winter we raised and spent nearly $13,000 through a GoFundMe entirely separate from our political fundraising. The supplies purchased with those funds went to community members struggling to heat their homes during our long and unusually harsh winter, and included coal, propane, firewood, emergency food, livestock feed, and roadside safety kits, read more here.
This is our third year providing students with the necessities. We have delivered over 150 backpacks so far, taking the stress from families who are struggling to purchase the needed supplies.
With your donation, we will purchase:
Backpacks
Notebooks
Folders
Pencils, Pens
Crayons and Markers
Calculators and more
These supplies will be distributed in the communities mentioned above the week of August 7th. Please help us today to ensure students in our communities are ready for success.
